Overcome Your OCD with Online Therapy

Most of us have, at some time, felt uncertain about leaving the iron or the stove on and some have even gone home to check. This type of behavior is just normal and doesn't cause any damage or harm in one's life. However, if you have intrusive "what if" thoughts, and your need to perform these behaviors on a regular basis and they interfere with your daily life, then you might be suffering from OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder).

OCD is a condition marked by irrational beliefs (obsessions) and rituals (compulsions). The obsessions are recurrent, unwanted thoughts that are difficult or impossible for you to ignore and cause you anxiety. By performing repetitive, ritualized compulsions, you (temporarily) ease your anxiety. It may, for example, be that you often wash your hands very thoroughly, or check all the locks in your home. You may feel like you "have" to do these rituals. These thoughts and behaviors most likely take up a lot of your time and energy, causing you significant stress which can cause tension in your relationships and other aspects of your life.

Luckily there is hope, even if you have tried to stop your compulsions before and it has not been as successful as you would like. Our therapy for OCD is based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). With the help of CBT and your therapist, you will identify what triggers your OCD. You will learn how to face your obsessions and find ways to refrain from ritualizing. Eventually you will be able to face these triggers without the need to perform your normal rituals (like washing your hands several times in a row or checking the lights numerous times). You will discover how to replace these negative thoughts with more realistic ones. Eventually you will be in charge of the thoughts and behaviors that previously have been fueling your OCD, so that you can live life free from obsessions and compulsions.

"The therapist I have really seems to get it after our first session. I haven’t started doing the individual portion of my therapy but I like how it’s laid out. I’m looking forward to getting through it"

"Steve has been a game-changer for me, and this is after the first couple weeks where things are generally great. I still find by logging in each day and trying my best to be consistent, it seems as though I my negative behaviors are less and positive ones more. It also helps a great deal - as much as the program itself - that Steve seems like a genuinely caring therapist. I really could not ask for more and am extremely thankful."

"Vanessa An (MNCPS(acc,) MBacp (accred), DipCouns) is an amazing counselor! I had to switch counselors ( was an effortless process through this website) and I’m so glad I did and found Vanessa. Had I known that processing the past, validation and reflection would have been so beneficial I would have not hesitated before. The new ground I’ve gained through this website and through Vanessa for my mental and emotional health was worth every penny!"

"I am a busy mom in middle management. Any time I take for therapy during business and mom hours makes me feel like I’m taking away time from the people that depend on me. That’s probably why I need it! But, also, online therapy allows me to work on me during downtimes that my kids are asleep and business is shut down. It’s how I wind down from a busy day and grow into a person who is working, living, AND healing. There’s no traffic or struggle to find a therapist who is close to work or home who also has open appointments that match my schedule. My therapist cares and helps me find the spaces in my head and life that need self care and emotional healing. This has really set me on a path of self discovery and continued focus on taking care of myself first so that I can be more present and enjoy my family."
